Default Audio Experts JL HD600/4 or PDX4.150

Not sure where to post this.
I am a JL guy and yes, I would like to stick with JL, but the price is whats got me thinking.
I am installing (8) JL 770’s 4ohms 100RMS and leaving (4) MB Quart 4ohms 100RMS that are currently installed. Total of 12 speakers.

JL audio support recommends that I use (2) HD 600/4 (150 W RMS x 4 @ 1.5 ohm-4 ohm. Price for (2) of these is $1000-$1200.

I went to local audio store and was suggested I use (1) PDX 4.150 (Per channel into 4 ohms : 150W x 4). Internet price $425.00

What has the experience been with the PDX 4.150? Does it hold up to extreme heated outside temps?
Is this one amp going to make this system rock?

Thanks

pdx amp is very under rated. Hardly any amp draw and lots of clean power!

I agree the PDX is a great amp. I would also recommend the Rockford T600-4

I have 2 PDX amps in my boat and several friends have them as well. They are the BEST amps I have ever had. They are digital, have a low power draw and do not make the heat of a conventional class B amp. My 4.150 is actually tested and put out 177watts x 4. They make the same power at 4 ohms or 2 ohms. I got mine off ebay for under $400 new.

You are talking about running all 12 speakers off one PDX 4 channel? I don't know how you plan to wire it up but the PDX 4.150 isn't rated to run under 2 ohms. You would need to do some weird combination of series and parallel wiring to pull it off and you will not end up getting the power you desire, if it even works at all.

If you would need to run 2 of the JL HD amps you probably need 2 PDX amps. To save some money you could use one 4.150 for the JL speakers and one 2.150 for the Quarts. They are stackable so you can mount them one on top of the other to take up less space.

Concerning the PDX amp itself, I have one in my truck in Florida and it runs great. The factory birth sheet says it actually makes 179 watts per channel. No problems with overheating in the FL weather and while it runs warm it doesn't get anywhere near as hot as conventional amps I have run before.
