Default Any "Navy Guys" that know WTF this is?

Saw this bad boy 2 days ago Leaving San Diego.

Does anyone know what this is exactly?

Looks quasi stealth and defensive, but for all I know it could be packing serious punch in the form of Missile batteries.

Its a San Antonio Class (Amphibious Transport Dock)

You should have speed up and pulled along side and asked them!!! I'm sure they would have loved that, and you'd probably be shopping for a new boat this weekend!

He's right, it's the Green Bay.

it's basically troop and equipment hauler. looks more menacing than it's actual purpose due to it's stealth design. Cool ships, i spent some time on the george washington in port right next to the San Antonio.

Its the USS New York and the ship has forged into its bow stem 7 1/2 tons of steel from the World Trade Center, which collapsed during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, notice the 2 towers on the ship. a crew of 380 enlisted sailors, three Marines and 35 officers were cleared to reside aboard the vessel, designed to carry as many as 800 Marines, their vehicles and helicopters to war.

The USS New York is LPD-21, the one in the picture is definitely the Green Bay. they are sister ships.
