Default Alpha shifter question

I'm posting this for fellow OSO'r Milord.

He had to rh rotation alphas on his boat then switched to one LH and one RH ,well he bought some shifters, and wants to know how to hook them up.
I guess the question is , is forward gear the same position (in the outdrive ) for both of them ? Unlike a Bravo.
If this question doesn't make sense thats okay ,I was a little confused myself !

The difference between the two drives is in the lower unit gears and bearings (basically). The installation of the drive and all related equipment, such as shifters and cables, etc, is the same.

Ok, here is the deal. With the shift cables hooked up the same way. The prop on the left drive rotates the wrong way. It spins clockwise in forward, when it should spin counter-clockwise. I switched the cable in the controller so that one pushes and one pulls and it seems to be right now. The boat is in pieces and easy to work with right now so I want to make sure its right before I start putting the interior back in.

Thanks in advance for any input.

James

What direction do your engines rotate? Do you have one left hand and one right hand or two left hand rotation engines? Both engines should be left hand rotation to use a counter-rotating Alpha drive on one side. The left hand drive lower unit should have "L" stamped on the prop shaft.
Another method to check proper setup- with engines NOT running and drives installed!
For the left hand drive-put in forward gear and you should be able to turn the prop COUNTERCLOCKWISE and hear a ratcheting sound. It should NOT turn clockwise. (shift dog locks up)
For the right hand drive- put in forward gear, and turn the prop CLOCKWISE and you should hear a racheting sound. It should NOT turn counterclockwise. (shift dog locks up)
Whichever way of attaching the shift cables gives you this, is correct.
