I want to check the timing on my 502 mpi. But the balancer is too rusty to see any numbers on it. From what i can tell, there is a 60 on the far right side, and i can see where the ticks start on the left. I can also see the two grooves but don't know what degree those are. One looks to be in the 6 degree area, the other in the 30 degree area, but I can't tell? Any help here.

are the marks on the balancer or the timing tab? if it's the tab that is rusted, clean it up with some emerycloth and use some white out to mark the balancer's TDC line.

marks are on the balancer. I've figured out with some chalk what is what. I ran the motor at 1700 rpm's with a and b shorted out. Looks to me that the timing is set at 14 degrees. Its supposed to be 8......... Do I have a sensor that is throwing the timing off?
