Default Oil pressure switch wiring, HELP...

After having my 1988 420's rebuilt and changing carbs{without electric chokes} the red wire that use to go from the oil pressure switch to the electric choke is no longer used. There is a purple wire that comes from the + side of the coil or ignition amplifier and goes to the oil pressure switch that is located on the remote oil filter housing. Then the red wire went to one terminal on the electric choke and the other terminal to ground. Without both wires on the oil pressure switch, will it work ?
My gauges are not acting correctly either. If I switch the panel lights on, the gauges move. Some read higher, some lower. Maybe have a ground problem or something to do with missing wire. I have very little electrical knowlege, but I get by. Need alittle help, Thanks. BC
