Guys – Has anyone cut these out? Is it as easy as cutting them out? How much throatier/louder did it get? Any performance gains?
Thanks in advance for the help. I am not a very technical person but think I might be able to manage this.

I konw it will make it much throatier, but at a price. The price is the chance of taking in water cuz the baffles double as anti-surge valves. So, you must have external flappers at a minimun. For teh time and energy, new tips are not that much from say Rex Marine and will be nice and loud with the anti-surge valve in them. Enjoy.

Are there any performace gains from adding the tips or removing the baffles? I guess I am thinking the engine is breathing better...
Thanks,

Dont just hack the tips.. Do it right & replace them.. They arent that expensive to replace & do it the right way. There is no major performance gains achieved, but it does help & will sound louder & better. I also recomend that there is some sort of flapper inside to help reduce the risk of water intrusion which is not to be confused with reversion.. If you want a price on good tips feel free to give me a call. This way you can do the job right..

go with new tips, I sold my old tips to a friend since I have dry sm exhaust, and he picked up 3 mph from the gill to my exhaust on a 17ft 220hp sb and now has sm with a 350 325hp set up. but has not had it in the water in 2yrs.

We will offer an even trade deal, your (used) muffler tips for a set of (used) thru hull tips? + shipping charges. We have a couple of styles to choose from.
Muffler tips are worth more, some of the local areas are cutting down on loud exhaust, so mufflers are easier to sell.
