7.3 High pressure oil pump
#1
I have a 2002 f250, I am working on the 3rd pump in 109,000 miles. Is that normal? Is there anything that can be done to make it last longer? These have all been installed by the dealership.

They may be F'ing you. If it is the o-rings they are about $13 and take about 1 hr in toll to change them all. What happened to mine once, and thanks to Doc Holiday and a couple others on this site, they pointed me in the direction of the pump and a bolt on the back. Well it loosens up sometimes and all you need to do is tighten it up and all is well. But yes I did change the lines and o-rings myself.

Mine started to leak on an 02 model also around 60k miles.
I took it to the dealer and they replaced the o-rings and had me going for about $130.00. I have learned since that it is a pretty easy fix and of course the o-rings are cheap.
Go to www.thedieselstop.com and you should find all the information you need.
But to answer your question to have that happen three times in 109k miles is too frequent. I have heard of dealers ripping folks off charging for a new pump with all you need is o-rings.
Hopefully you can find the cause and get better service.
Good luck
