I'm a fisherman and am trying to learn about this racing thing. What is a poker run?

Technically, a poker run is not a race but sometimes the big horsepower players run fast to the card stops.

Participants in a poker run travel to designated 'card stops' where playing cards are handed out at each one. At the end of the day best hand wins. Rules vary depending on the event- sometimes multiple cards are given out at different stops. a stop can be a boat, a dock or a restaurant- any place or thing that is accessible to the boats. Usually, one of the card stops is also the lunch stop.

Here's a link to a slideshow from a run in Sarasota on Labor Day.

Sounds pretty fun, a game that you don't have to spend a million dollars to get into.

Entry fee & gas. Any reason you couldn't run it in a, let's say, 26' cc w/ 250's?

A few of the runs around the country are "big dick" runs where "little boats" aren't welcome.....but the your boat would work fine in the vast majority of the Poker runs around the country. A poker run is supposed to be a fun day on the water with a bunch of other boaters.....most of us don't care what boat you have. Your CC might be one of the last boats to each stop, but does that really matter???? (NO)

BTW: The run I have helped with the last couple years has had several CC's enter each year....always a good group of people.
