Screw Ebay- a couple people sell them there with a starting bid higher than the cost to buy outright from manufacturer.
If you want the genuine Mercury Marine tool which fits new and old #1/R/MR/Alpha/Bravo/TRS w/BW or Merctrans buy from the dealer- price is about $100+ shipping.
If you want the lower price version that only fits new and old Alpha/Bravo then try WWW.boatfix.com Price is about $65+ shipping.
The Ebay guys start them at $65+ shipping! I have seen the cheap ones sell for $95+. Crazy! They could got a real one for that!
http://www.glm-marine.com/ Try this one, but it may not work- that's the manufacturer.

Here's the source you are looking for. Go to www. mercurypartsexpress.com .
Click on Accessories to find authorized mercury parts dealer near you. The Bravo 1 alignment tool you seek is part no. 91-805475A-1, cost was $ 56.80 approx. 6 months ago when I bought mine, thru Mercury Parts Express dealer.
Tool is a 3 piece set that aligns almost all of mercury's outdrives.
When you order tool thru dealer, ask them if they will sell it for the parts express price.
Our local mercury dealer was unaware of this program mercury offers. You must use a participating Parts Express dealer listed in webb sites dealer list.

Aparently there's been a touch of inflation in the last 6 months. That tool is now $97.50! WOW!

Well, thankyou very much! But, HP500efi has also volunteered his, and he's just across town, so it makes more sense to use his. Guess, I was hoping I wouldn't have to borrow the tool, but a bill is just too much to pay for a chunk of steel that I'll get to use once before dropping it.

A length of 1" OD steel shafting does a good job. When the engine is properly aligned it droops as it goes through the transom bearing. Apply vertical pressure and the gap at the bearing top should be the same as at the bottom. Do the same thing side to side. Appy moderate pressure first to one side then the other side. The gaps should be equal.
As a final test I use a spare splined shaft to verify that it goes in and out easy.
