I was just thinking with all the stolen stuff, especially drives and electronics, maybe we could have a new forum section where victims could enter the serial numbers and if one of us was going to buy a used piece of equipment we could do a serial number search here first. maybe recover some stolen equipment and put some thieves in jail.

Anybody stealing anything with a serial number is smart enough to remove it and/or paint over it. There is nothing illegal about removing a serial number on boat parts. It is not like VIN tampering on cars.

Didn't know it was legal to remove the serial #. that's ridiculous. Good chance for the government to pass a law that makes sense and actually accomplishes something.
