What's up anyone that can help me . I am fiting some new MoMo racing seats into my boat , the seat pans are stamped steel . I did not know this when I bought them so I'm wondering if I powder coat the crap out of them how long will it last in salt water conditions ?

I think you'd be better off painting them. The paint will bond better to the steel and you could put on several coats. Powdercoating does not do well one it gets a couple chips. It will bubble and flake off badly.

I agree with Griff. Are they going to be completly covered in vinyl? Or are you going to be able to see the back of the pans? How about getting them Rhino-lined (truck bed liner) then covered in vinyl.

Well, of all the three the paint would be cheapest. Any good industrial poly/epoxy paint would be fine. Go get a cheap spray gun and a quart of paint and primer. Might have $100 bucks in everything when your done.

I was just thinking if the backs were exposed the Rhino-lining would help with scratches and exposure. They can spray it pretty smooth plus UV protection. Got some cool colors now too.

Well The paint would be the cheepest in materials however I've owned a custom body / Fab shop sence 89 and seeings how I do all the painting I was hoping ya'll would overwhelmingly say the powder coating would hold up . Then I could just hand them to my PC guy and not have to do them myself ! LOL !

I would still go with a quality durable paint. It will stick better than powder and last longer. Car body panels are steel and are painted and look at how they last. Powdercoating will end up bubbling and chipping and when it does, it will get worse in a hurry.

Good point about the car body's ! I guess I'm painting ! I sware I can't get a break ! lol !
