CR should stick with dishwashers and vacuums. Their automotive reports have always been biased in many regards. Their "predicted reliability" for a brand new engine like the Ford diesel is worthless because its based on data from the Navistar era.

Then when our vehicles improved over the last twenty years they barely gave it any mention.
As to Navistar engines the only one I've ever owned was a 6.9 IDI. It was a slug. I loved the truck(1987 F-250 Supercab) but hated the motor.
The 7.3 otoh turned out to be a very good motor, and the new aftermarket parts really wake it up. I've seen them make 500+ and one even made 600hp. If I was looking for a Ford diesel I would definitely buy a 7.3 before I would buy a 6.0 or 6.4.
I don't know why Ford stuck with the inferior V8 platform with the new 6.7 Scorpion diesel but with 450hp/750tq that's the way I would jump. It will make a great toyhauler but I wouldn't haul 15,000lbs+ all day every day with it.

Have had a Ford 6.0 and now own a 6.4 diesel.
NO problems and would enthusiastically recommend them!
