I'm definetly no Ford fan but the 7.3 was a great engine. Lets try to boost our American economy instead of putting it down.

CR should stick with dishwashers and vacuums. Their automotive reports have always been biased in many regards. Their "predicted reliability" for a brand new engine like the Ford diesel is worthless because its based on data from the Navistar era.

CR always pissed me off the way they drooled over Asian cars and ragged on American iron which was just one of the reasons I've never bought any vehicle made east of Germany. Then when our vehicles improved over the last twenty years they barely gave it any mention.

As to Navistar engines the only one I've ever owned was a 6.9 IDI. It was a slug. I loved the truck(1987 F-250 Supercab) but hated the motor.

The 7.3 otoh turned out to be a very good motor, and the new aftermarket parts really wake it up. I've seen them make 500+ and one even made 600hp. If I was looking for a Ford diesel I would definitely buy a 7.3 before I would buy a 6.0 or 6.4.

I don't know why Ford stuck with the inferior V8 platform with the new 6.7 Scorpion diesel but with 450hp/750tq that's the way I would jump. It will make a great toyhauler but I wouldn't haul 15,000lbs+ all day every day with it.

Have had a Ford 6.0 and now own a 6.4 diesel.
NO problems and would enthusiastically recommend them!

ditto.. 7 - 6.0's 2 with over 241k and 1 - 6.4.. The 6.4 is better, just has more smog stuff so mileage suffers.

Yeah but see what CR says about your truck......I predict a red circle.....I never put much faith in that magazine.
