Default Steering

I sea trialed a 32 Hustler the other day, when I was turning I had to do multiple revolutions of the wheel, the wheel was of common size. On my boat 180 degrees turning of the wheel and I'm almost doing a circle. Is that normal on the Hustler?

The amount of turns is based on the volume of the hydraulic helm.

Is there a way to increase the volume leading to a decrease in the amount of turns?

You have to change the hydraulic helm. I went from 1 turn lock to lock on my Pantera to 2.5 turns on the AT. It took some getting used to, especially around the docks. I would like to change mine so I have about 1.5 turns. I have to find out what volume helm I have now first though.

You didn't mention if the boat has external hydraulic steering, or not. If it has external steering, the volume size of the helm will impact the #of turns. If you go to Imco's website, they have a section on helms that illustrates this.

How did you like the 32 Hustler?

It was great, it had 500efis, both the mid-range and out of the hole was great. I'm a pretty anal sob when it comes to cosmetics, the engines were in good shape, the drives too, but the rest of the boat needs work, he said he let the boat go and didn't do what needed to be done to keep it up on the looks dept. Lots of tedious work, not sure I want to bust my ass literally on a what would be defined in my view as a project boat . I don't believe he would come down in price as much as I would want to make it worth it to me to do all that work.
