Ok, I'm in the middle of redoing most of the boat. Actually it's mostly done. My friend was doing all the wiring at the dash for the switches and the gauges. He was putting the gauges in last night and sees this little black box with wires coming out and has no idea what it is. There is no writing on it at all. Hopefully someone can make heads or tails of it from my description.

It's black and about 2"X3" and 3/4" thick.
The wires coming out are as follows:

Red
Black
Green
Purple
White/Green
White/Red

He thinks it was hooked to my drive trim gauges or my sync meter before.

Hopefully somebody know what the hell this thing is.

Thanks,

James

The proverbial black box!! I don't know the answer, but take a look at your trim pump. Are there green and purple wires for up and down? Maybe the black box reads the action in these wires and tells the trim gauge what to do?

Do you have Bennett trim tab indicators?

Milord,

Do you have twins with a trim on the throttle switch.

The black box could be the relay for the trim switch on the th
throttle. That is what mine looks like.

Ok guys, I have the Bennett indicators but I don't think this box has anything to do with them. They have their own black box (CPU).

I do have twins, and they had switches in the handles, they were Quicksilver controls. I just replaced them right now as well. Could they have been relays for those switches in the controls? If so do I not need them now?

Milord my boat had a box very similar in size and description to yours. It was the brain for an old Lowrance depth guage. All the wires were of very small diameter. It has been sent to the dump long ago.

Milord,

I am at school at the moment but I will try and remember to look at the stuff I got from Fourwinns. If I remember right it had a simple wiring diagram that applied to our boats and I will see if it has a reference to what your talking about.

Milord, I just checked the wiring schematic that I have. It's kind of hard to read, but I don't see anything that fits your description (wire count or coloring), which makes me think that perhaps it's an accessory device like everyone else is saying. Try contacting Fourwinns directly and perhaps they can give you an idea. It seems from what I can see that they use allot of yellow in their wiring harnesses and you do not mention that color. Good Luck, and keep us informed.
