Default advise needed on custom deck....

i am going to be starting on my deck project on my 78 spectra soon. in the pics below i have shown the same boat with what i have in mind. my question is, is that i was considering raising the deck from the windscreen forward an additional 4". my reason for considering this would be for additional head room in the cuddy as well as all around looks. it would also allow me to raise the windscreen 4" at the same time to help with the wind as this boat sits pretty low to the water. if i was to raise the deck i would maintain the 6" nonskid flat surface all the way to the front with the 4" raised deck tappering down to the flat deck.

hope this makes sense and any advice would be appreciated. my plans are to paint the boat yellow with black stripes. i really like the one shown here that this guy did in canada i believe. he did an excellent job. i just might want to make a few changes unless talked out of it. i'm just thinking if i duplicate what the other boat owner did and if i add an additional windscreen, either molded or plexi the boat would look a little out of proportion.

Please help with my ideas, thoughts before i start grinding and cutting.

Thanks,
john

PS it's hard to believe this is the same year, make and model from spectra.

another thought i just had was if i did the same deck mods in the above photo and if i decided to raise the deck i could raise it at the rub rail around the whole boat. currently there is only about an 1" of vertical deck before going flat. i wonder how it would look if i did it here rather than just the front portion as discussed earlier. i know this is a lot of work either way however i have more time than money right now and am not afraid to tackle such a project as i plan to reglass and fasten the deck to the hull over the winter anyway.

ideas welcome.

thanks,
joh n

Damn this boat is sweet! Fantastic proportions. Did I read you right, this was a custom deck that used to be a bubble deck?

Hey Jim,
I hope all is well. The boat didn't hit the water this year. If I would have known that November would have been so nice weather wise I probably would have. I have a lot of other work to do as you can probably see. It's kind of a fun project though. Thanks very much for your help in assisting throughout the engine builds. I'll stay in touch throughout the winter and keep you posted. Please email me your address so I can send you a check for the misc. parts.

Thanks,
John

Hard to believe it's the same boat with the exception of the deck mods. That is why I am a little eager to move forward but just would like some opinions and or advise. Thanks for your reply and I am glad to see someone other than myself can appreciate the deck mods. I was thinking about raising the deck about 4" at the rub rail however the more I see the one in the pic above the more I think I should just try and duplicate what's already been done.

Thanks again,
John

John-
I'd copy that boat, I really like the lines of it. It's hard to believe that's the same boat.
