I am looking at a 2008 290 sc. I have suddenly changed my mind set from a 28 Active Thunder to this 290sc. I know two totally different types of hulls. I keep reading these 290sc will beat you to death in the ruff water. Is this just internet b/s or is there truth to this? I am coming from a 25 Outlaw which for what it is, handles the ruff pretty well for it's size.
Will the Velocity at least handle the ruff as good as my outlaw? I know the Velocity has a much faster hull than both the Active Thunder and the Outlaw. But I will be running in the Gulf most of the time and some days are pretty ruff. any input will be great,
If I do choose to go with the AT I still think the Velocity is a great boat. One last question how is the build quality and factory support? Thanks for any and all info this is a great site and the Velocity area is one of the best.

Hi Dennis, I do know factory support is great, not many boat companies you can call and speak directly to the owner but you can at Velocity. I have never riden in a 29 SC so can't tell you much. I bet they will handle anything the other brands you mentioned will handle but at a faster pace. I really like my 320 it has a really deep dead rise and you feel safe in any condition within reason. We all know the longer the better and a 39 or 41 will handel the rough stuff but get a little boring in the other stuff. What I like about Velocity besides being tough as hell is you actually have to drive it. Most everyone that has driven mine that have bigger boats tell me, "Man I want one these" Velocity's are a thrill a minute. I'd say jump in one and try it out...Really don't think you will look back. Hi Dennis,
The guys at the factory are hands on, helpful and know what they are talking about, so no worries there.
As for the 290sc, i haven't ridden in one but i do know that the bottom is the same as the VR-1 290 and they go racing! so i would have thought they would be able to handle some ruff water. The thing is, just like speed needs cubic capacity, ruff water needs bigger boats for comfort. Its all compromise at the end of the day.
By the way, where are you based in the Gulf? I lived in Dubai for two years and never saw any really ruff water in my time there.

Hi Dennis. I have a Velocity 280. The hull has to be very similar to the 290.. I have been in Outlaws and Velocitys. The Velocity will take the water as well if not better then the Outlaw and is faster. with the same power. Like the Outlaw they also have nice deep secure cockpits.
My experience with the factory has been great.
