Default What's the story on "Regal" velocity boats???

Am I right to assume that in the mid-late 80's all Velocity were the Regal Velocity? How do they compare?

I believe you are correct, they are good handling boats, but i dont believe the build quality is a good as a Stepp Velocity.

The deal here is that Steve Stepp had the hull design and sold or leased the rights to produce it to Regal. I believe Steve actually worked for Regal in some capacity supervising the production of his designs. At some point he was not happy with what they were doing at Regal and left, then sued Regal, and started building Thoroughbred boats on his own. Eventually the legal deal was settled and the Thoroughbred name morphed into todays Velocity. Pretty much it in a nut shell!

In terms of quality I would give the upper hand to the "real" Velocities over the Regal built versions.

Back in 1988 when we were running a Malstrom they were laying up the hulls and deck of the Velocity at the Malstrom shop in Sarasoda and then sent it over to Regal to finsh off.
