Default Has anyone personally installed a GM Marine 502 Base engine?

I promise this is the last thread I post on this!

After hours of searching the web I can not find the specs on this engine. I have found a couple of posts that say it has Incornel exhaust valves others that say no.

I am asking for personal experience knowledge. I don’t want to tear into a factory assembled engine to see what’s inside and to check the clearances.

I know I need a new flywheel and install an electric fuel pump.

I need to make a decision by this weekend.
Thanks!

if the only concern is the inconel exhaust valves
take the rocker off and seee if a magnet sticks to the valve stem,,if it dont then they are inconel.. or take the spark plyg out, turn the motor over until you get full valve lift on the exhaust valve and take a mini flex head magnet and go in through the sparkplug hole and see if it sticke to the valve..

Be careful using a magnet on Inconel exhaust valves at the stem, they all have non-Inconel stems, only the head of the valve is Inconel.

As for your answers, call Flagship Marine Engines in Punta Gorda Florida 888-282-2840 , they are a master GM Powertrain Marine engine distributor and have used hundreds of these engines and will know the exact correct part number, engine details and spec for your application.

This way you are finding out from the GM base engine experts.

Hello,
I bought Brand new GM long Block from 1800runsnew last year and disassembled it down to a short block and yes they do use the best parts GM performance sells. They do use stainless intake and Inconel exhaust valves

Here are the specs on the cylinder Heads
http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...-P1063C50.aspx

The intake valves are stainless part # 14097045 2.19in Intake Valve
The exhaust valves are a GM Inconel part#14097049 1.88in Exhaust Valve

Timing chain

Crank shaft part# 10114186 Crankshaft Gen. V & Gen VI (1053 Steel) 10114186
http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...6-P109C27.aspx

Piston ring pack is a JE700 piston This 502 standard, pressed pin, high performance piston has a 8.75:1 compression ratio. Use with all 502, 8.2L engines (compression base on 199cc head). Note included with this piston is ring package PN 12524293

I assumed everything worked ok?? Is it what you expected?

Did you have to change the distributor gear, I read something about that.

I have a MarkIV crankshaft, they are different than Gen VI.
