Default Here is an idea...

I mounted 2" receiver tubes on both sides of the frame rails behind the rearmost axle facing outward. I took a 2"o.d. pipe, 8ft long and welded to a 18" long square tube. This creates a removable guide pole that fits into the 2" receiver on the trailer. I galvanized all the metal parts. Drill a 5/8" hole in the square tubing at the proper place and use a normal receiver pin to hold the pole in place while mounted upright in the receiver tube. Place a carpet covered 2"i.d. pvc pipe over the metal pipe and you have a nice looking, strong, removable guide pole assembly. While trailering, the guide poles ride up front in brackets mounted on the bow winch post and traler crossmember. The poles are riding under the bow of the boat and securely fastened to prevent movement.

I know, you are thinking "Why 7-8 ft tall?" Your long trailer extends so far into the water, that you need the height to contact the rub rail of your boat during approach.

I would encourage you to stay away from the aftermarket guide pole kits that mount with u-bolts and clamps. The clamps are not tight enough to prevent "pushover" when your big boat contacts them while loading. That would create a real problem and embarrasement.

Hope this helps with your project.....

My trailer came with the clamp on type mentioned above.....after a couple seasons I decided to put them on this past summer and try them. A) They do need to be nearly 8 ft tall. They will be starting from deep under your bow when you first approach and need to come up to your bow rail. B) the pre-fab clamp-on type will hold a clamp, however, they WILL bend like crap as soon as the boat puts any pressure on them side-to-side......I took them back off after 2 trips cause all I did was bend the crap out of them.
