I'm currently looking at an 87 scarab excel 26ft with 330hp 454 and alpha one for $10k. I've been a pretty loyal baja guy, and I dont know much about the wellcrafts, so i'm looking for some guidance. are these decent boats for the money, and is this a fair price with a newer trailer? what speed can i expect from this boat? I looked it up and it looks like it weighs about 4500lbs, so i assume prob 50mph is pushing its luck with a stock 454. although because of its weight, i assume it will prob have an excellent ride quality. is this a safe assumption? thanks in advance for your opinions!

Wellcrafts build quality on the Scarab line was a little better than Baja overall. Wellcrafts biggest issues tend to be with rotted tramsoms from poor sealing during construction. If its good, your good. As far as top speed on that boat, it should run a little better than 50, closer to 60.

thanks scarabman!
the guy said its a 330hp motor and I dont see mag anywhere on the motor. I'll have to get the serial number and check it out.
the boat is super clean and its on a very nice loadmaster trailer, but i agree that its a little overpriced. i was hoping to throw 8k at him and see what happens. i'm kind of settling a bit on this boat, because i would really like to have a formula 242 or 271.
