Default ebay 27 fever

looking for some opinions on a 27 fever with twin 454,s that is currently listed on ebay. i have never run a fountain, was wondering what kind of rough water ride one might expect from this boat. i like to be able to run in 3 foot chop on lake st. clair, put tabs down and slice through. i am skeptical that this boat would do very well in those conditions? I am thinking the 8'4" beam might make it pound a little compared to say a 272 formula or even a nova II, witch is what my experience has been with. the seller has never used the boat so performance is estimated. does anyone know what kind of top speed to expect? advertised as 454 mags, but judging from the pictures, the engines look like older 370's or 420's. it is just a guess but the exhaust manifolds look like older 420 exhaust as do the valve covers. can anyone ID the motors from the pics. looks like a clean rigg, alot of bang for the buck. all opinions appreciated. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_500wt_1182

I sent you over a PM. On second look of the boat i saw it also had a molded platform. More like a 24ft. hull then a 27. I think you would get beat up in 3's just doesnt have the leaghth needed. As for engines They dont seem to be 420, possable 365's Probably runs 70. But im no fountain guru on speed.

I dont think those motors are 420's, they look like 370's or 385's. Fountain counts the beak and platform in their 27 so you are right it is pretty much a 24' hull. A friend of mine had one for a little while and he said it was a rough ride in 3'+, my old Nova II was a better ride so if your looking for better ride..... Should scoot with twins, but based on others ive seen they are really ass heavy, ride low on idle could take one over the transom pretty easily. Plus looking at condition it prob isnt worth more than 12-14k IMHO plus no trailer and a 12 hour drive each way to get it. If it was a repo im sure he got it real cheap besides, <10k ill bet.

Those engines are 365hp carbed 454 mags if those are the correct shrouds for the engines. My friend had a 1989Wellcraft Nova XL with one of those engines in it. Also noticed no hydraulic steering on that e-bay boat.

If the serial number posted in the e-bay add is correct, it is a Fountain 27, built January 1989 as a 1990 model boat.

365 or 385 EFI it's a 29 because that year they did not count the swim platform even if those motors were tired 75+no problem if you can steal it with trailer hull looks good!Nova II PLEASE !!

The boat market prices are so down right now you can really grab a deal. The twin engine 27's were really no faster than the single engine 27's. If you were looking to spend that much, i would personally buy a single engine 27. You will save a ton of money on maintence and repairs in the future. Just my opinion. Jeff Wurl
