Hey guys I'm new to OSO. I'm looking at getting my hands on a stinger 222 with a 454 Mercruiser and Alpha drive. I want to know how hard it is to convert over to thru hull exhaust. I know i will need a template of some sort but I'd also like to know a simple riser to use or if i would be able to keep the stock risers and simply add a set of pipes to the back. I dont want a quiet boat. I'm making the switch from outboard powered race boats too something larger with more room. Any help you guys can dish out will be greatly appreciated! Thanks

G'day mate and welcome to the board!
Stinger 222 with a through hull (if it didn't come with it?) is a simple conversion / set up.
I've posted numerous pics of my various set ups in mine so try searching for my previous posts to save me posting the pics again! You'll need low rise risers on whatever manifold you choose, the high rise ones hit the hatch! So stock manifolds and risers will be able to just go straight back to the transom.
Apart form that, from memory I think with standard length risers you need about 24" of 4" ID tube either side to reach the transom. I use straight through tips with the internal baffles removed and lengthened inner riser tubes to combat reversion.
I would suggest the Bravo 1 drive conversion to be on the safe side, but you'll love how the hull handles.
If you need any specific pics or measurements, let me know. There's a few blokes on here with 222s or 202s so there's some good info.
Be sure to post some pics of yours when you can!
Good Luck,
John

Thanks for the help John. I don't have the boat yet but if I like it I'll probably buy it. My current boat is a 19ft Action with a 245hp Merc MOD-vp outboard. It's small, noisy and rediculously fast. Ran 104gps with an injected 260. I've been looking for something larger, noisy and not quite as fast and the Stinger looks tempting. Yours looks nice. Thanks again!

John, my main concern is the location/orientation of where I need to drill the 4" holes through the hull. If I can run stock headers and risers and just pipe the gases out the back I will. I want to keep things simple. I know how easy it is to get carried away with performance boats.

The Risers in the stock height / location with the 90 deg elbows will give you the clearance to put two through transom holes about 2 inches below the rub rail.

Simple enough to drill and doesn't interfere with anything unless it's something that's where it shouldn't be such as the drive fluid resevoir.
Let me know if you need any specific measurements etc.
Highly recommend the Stinger. Great hull and as long as your motor is set up the way you want, great fun to drive. Heaps of potential for custom set ups and upgrades too! Mine used to have a supercharged 502 but the motor didn't rev enough for all the weight and complexity. A decent 454 Mag and a well set up Alpha 1 with the right prop will get you going nicely, but I'd still prefer the strength of the Bravo drive for peace of mind!
