Default Ford 7.3 diesel exhaust

Is 5" to big to put on the 7.3? Has anybody put a 5" system on and lost power?

I have a fair amount of work done to mine and run the 4 inch Magnaflow with the 4 inch down pipe and it runs great. I would think you would need a ton of work to need bigger than that.

Most guys will put 5" on if they're planning on 500hp or more. It will cost you big bucks to get 500hp out of the 7.3 though so if that's not your goal stay with the 4". Stainless steel dissipates heat much better than aluminum so I would go that route with a turbo back system and Hushpower muffler.

MBRP, Diamond Eye, Magnaflow all make excellent exhaust systems. You have a V8 so go dual. I had a dual exhaust on my old F250 with cherry bomb mufflers and echo tips. I called it my Mileormore truck. When I fired it up you could hear it for a mile or more. My neighbors hated me in the mornings.

Same here, 2001 with Banks bigger turbo, power elbow, Hyper Tech stage 3, Banks trans kit etc. Full 4" is plenty. Good EGT's through out the whole rpm range. Stick with the 4".

I have an 02 with a DP tuner chip, he told me I would lose power with a 5", just checking. Lapse what all have you done to your truck and how many mpg's are you getting? I am only getting 17 with stock tires and the chip. The chip only got me 1 mpg. I do have a visor and have been told that is costing me mpg.

It's an 01 Excursion with AFE stage 2, wicked wheel turbo wheel, the injectors have be modded, bigger intercooler, edge juice with attitude, the magnaflow exh. dif. balancer the trans is built. and a few other little things. I run the stock 373 gears with 325 65 18 tires witch are 35x13.5 my trip to work is 16 miles 50/50 hwy/city and I get 19-20, out on the hwy. for a road trip the best I have got is 22.5 running about 70 avg. with the tires and the gears I can run 2300 rpm @80 mph. I have a bug sheild but no visor.

You will have trouble fitting the 5" exhaust on the truck when you pass thru the hole between the frame, crossmember, and transmission. My 4" MBRP exhaust was tight and made some noise that I had to tweak to get it not bang on occasion.
