What kind of water is he planning on running it in? The Donzi classics are cool boats. Checkmate has some smaller models that look and run pretty well in calmer water too.

Why is he adverse to a 20-24' boat?

If he would go up to 21' the older (late 80's) 21' Liberators are pretty sweet boats for the cost. They ride well in rougher seas and move pretty good (but most of them have a BBF 460 in them)...

If he would consider an outboard:

1) Allison
2) STV

Both are 100+ MPH boats with a good Merc on the back.
