Does anyone have a suggestion for plumbing a Wipple intercooler? I now pickup water from through hull to seastrainer into pump, then splits for motor-cooler. Cooler dumps overboard. My problem is I'm about 5-10lbs low water pressure @ WOT. I've added reducer in thermostat housing, but only added a couple lbs. My thought was to Y- into strainer from drive & through hull to "double intput" or use drive pickup (low/side pickups of XR) for just IC & through hull for motor.
#1-will this make any difference?
#2-if I go from drive to IC, what do I use to filter & reduce hose size? Sea strainers don't seem to keep sand out, just twigs & rocks. + they are quite pricey to add a second just for IC.
#3-will this be too much pressure @ WOT?
#4-I've heard not having water pumped through IC at idle can cause it to crack when cold water hits it once underway. Is that true?

a lot of people force feed the intercooler so as not to rob water going to the motor. If you do that it will pick up the water pressure on the engine. your intercoolers on the whipples should be good to 30 psi. GROCO makes a sand strainer that is used for air conditioners that i am using on my setup their tech dept told me they were good to 90 psi @ 80 degrees with 3/4 fittings so they will hold up they just dont look as good as the ss strainers(they are plastic) havent ever heard of a whipple intercooler cracking from the setup i am talking about. Hardin marine makes a fitting that replaces the std mercruiser fitting at the transom that can be bushed down for your water lines to make them the right size. hope this helps.
