Default 496 Mag engines going away?

I was wondering what will fill the niche that the 496 has when GM stops making the BBC this year. I know that there are 6.2l applications out there(supercharged and NA), but wonder how they will be recieved. Will builders start using more non GM engines that are bigger in displacement to keep the BBC format or V10? Just wondering.

Wink Price of the new Merc 8.2LHO engine?

Jamie , whats the new Mercury price tag on the new 8.2L 502 HO engine. I've heard its quite a big jump from the price of the 496HO it replaces. Since you're a dealer, could you enlighten me and the others here on OSO what the new price currently is?

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

Ray,

I don't have anything carved in stone yet so to speak, but From what my rep has told me, The estimated retail pricing is expected to be about (please keep in mind these are only current approximates):

380hp 8.2 Magnum bobtail Retail $19, 012.10
380hp 8.2 Magnum bobtail Sea core Retail $20, 623.20

430hp 8.2 Magnum HO bobtail Retail $21, 594.30
430hp 8.2 Magnum HO bobtail Sea core Retail $23, 202.40

Also, supposedly they will Not be available for order fulfillment/delivery until approximately June 2010

Supposedly they were trying or are trying to keep the price similar or the same to what the Merc 496 price has been until recently, PLUS about a 3600.00 Catalytic converter up-charge!..

Boy, gotta love the emissions stuff! I think we could have saved more trees by not having to print 3600- in paper & have left the boats cat free..... lol

Wink Get some more green for your Wallet!

Thanks Jamie, pretty close to what another dealer kinda told me also. Its quite a jump up from the 496's from Merc previously. Most builders were paying about $14K for the 496Mag and about $16K for the HO so these new price 502 engines only avialable with the cats will add a bit of change to any new boat. Seems kinda strange Merc annouced them and showed them in November at Lauderdale and yet they are not even delivering them until June at the earliest!
Guess that shows us how many builders are ordering engines and delivering new boats with these bbc engines?

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar
