Don't Write Off Powerboat P1's Season Just Yet !

It appears teams are still testing and preparing their boats for the upcoming Powerboat P1 2010 Racing Season in Europe first race being in the Ukraine.

Team Lucas Oil has been spotted heading east to test their boat. That could only mean one thing, they are going testing for the Ukraine race.

Found on Team Lucas Oil's official website "Twitter 77LucasOil BLOG":

"The Vector has landed in Antwerp... as have Oskar, Erik, and Jason. Craig arrives on Sunday and the rest on Monday. Testing Tuesday"

Additional race sites for 2010 in all hopes that the series continues would include Turkey , Sicily, Malta, Belgium and Italy.

I would also guess to say that there would always be a possibility of the series teaming up with Class 1 at some point for a race.

Hopefully as many people can all pull together racers, sponsors, & promoters to keep this season alive !!!

This is one good sign of that happening....

The conditions in Arendal, Norway, would be perfect for both classes! In the "old days" back in -87 there where mostly V-boats, and they raced around the Tromöy island. A perfect course for the P1-teams; calm & easy on the inside of the island, BIG waves outside. That was really spectacular to watch. (I`ll never forget Didier Pironi and his "Colibri", "Anabella", "Rocky", +++)
The Class1 now starts in the city and races in the "calm sea" in the fjord between the island and the city of Arendal.
And if there`s ONE PLACE where there`s LOTS of spectators, it has to be Arendal! Several hundred thousands actually!!!

I think there`s more places around where this would be possible. Who said they has to race the same course???

Lets all hope they`ll find a way to sort this out.
I don`t race "big boats" myself, but I`m a "hardcore" offshore-freak, and I just love to see and hear these beasts.

Yes many of the teams are working very hard behind the scenes on making the season happen as planned - I think Yalta may be put back by a couple of weeks or so, but the word is that there will be racing this year - I really hope so!

P1 MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE STATEMENT
4-14-2010

Considering the overall challenging situation, the P1 Management Committee met on the 12th of April 2010 at Villa Malpensa, Italy to find a reasonable and acceptable solution in order not to put in jeopardy the 2010 Powerboat P1 racing season.

The UIM President reprimanded the Powerboat P1 Management on the untimely decision to suspend the 2010 racing season. After constructive discussions, at the end of the meeting, it was unanimously agreed by the P1 Management Committee that the UIM Powerboat P1 contracted promoter will use all its good offices to organize as many events as feasible in 2010 and honour the obligations with the UIM.

Dr. Raffaele Chiulli

UIM President

Mr. Jean-Marie Van Lancker

President UIM Pleasure Navigation Commission

Mr. Asif Rangoonwala

Chairman and CEO Powerboat P1 Management Limited
