Default 496 HO vs Raylar 496 Mag

Would I be crazy to pull my perfectly running 2001 300hr stock 496HO and replace it with a 496Mag with Raylar kit, port work and modified throttle body that is listed in classifieds? Granted I need alot more info than what is listed in the ad but just wondering what everyones "Ray's" thoughts are? Is it worth putting in a motor I know little to nothing about how it was built? http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o33270-en.html

If you want a Raylar kit why not get one put on the motor you already have?

At least you know the history and condition of your motor.

Wink A few Raylar parts do not a Raylar 525-496 make!

That 496 mag engine is just a customer who bought a Raylar camshaft and rockers for his engine and did some of his head work on his stock iron heads. That engine might make 435HP at best. It's not a Raylar 103 kit that with our aluminum heads, intake, cam, rockers, etc. that makes a 496 HO into a 525HP engine and a Mag the same with our reprogramming on the Mag ecm up to HO spec.
Do a compression test on your 496 engine and if the compression is good and even, upgrade you 496 with the Raylar 103 kit and have 525HP with stock exhaust and 565-570HP with good headers or header manifolds like Dana.

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

Was thinking it would give me options with either keeping the original motor for future use our sell and reclaim some $$.

Sometimes late night thinking can get you in trouble. Your insite and knowledge of that particular motor is spot on and much appreciated. Great info. Thanks for setting me straight.
