Thumbs down Speed Channel ? Dropped The Ball?

If SpeedChannel (formerly 'SPEEDVISION') REALLY IS dropping PowerBoating venue... . . . . . . .

can an educated person please tell me why?

Please, spare me the Nielson Ratings---- i wont by that bull!

Somebody's up to something!

Fox Network, or maybe the guy who originally sold OLN/Speedvision TO FOX? . . . . maybe, just maybe his non-compete clause has run out!

I'm speculating here----- but just watch this Summer of 2002!

SomeOne wise is going to 'broadcast' powerboating venue again!

REPLIES WELCOME!

I'll invest, If someone will put their ego's on the beach and get one solid sanctioning body for offshore powerboat racing. Right now offshore racing is like Cart and the IRL. Neither can survive alone, but their ego's are sooooooo big, they'd both rather go broke (not really, Tony George has the upper hand but thats off the topic)

Go for it!!!!!!OSOTV Where the sport lives

Yes, Speedchannel and APBA Offshore have a contract, but the smaller productions dont.

I just wrote a post detailing this on the other thread. (See below)

In the end, it's all about $$$$.

Here's what I know:

Speedchannel is now owned by FOX and they handle their advertising revenues much differently than Speedvision did. They basically want more control of the advertising. Unfortunately, this is what many of the smaller boat racing production companies rely on for generating revenue. In other words: It isn't financially feasible, and they might have to play somewhere else.

Remember - It isn't the network that produces the show -- it is the production company that sells the show to the network, IF the network is buying.

APBA Offshore is big enough to be able to ink deals with FOX Speedchannel, which they have for 2002. But the smaller producers have more difficulty.

Aero-EFX is the prodution company that produced "Competition Offshore" for the past few years. (http://www.coffshore.com)

These are some of the Speedvision productions they have handled in the past:
The Pacific Offshore
The Great Lakes Silver Cup Series
The Triple Crown of the River
Regattes de Valleyfield
Catalina, CA
ODBA Drag racing
Hampton Inboard Regatta
Kankakee APBA OPC Nationals

Aero-EFX tried to hook up with the new FOX Speedchannel - (and they may be still trying) but I've been told that things looked pretty bleak, and last week they informed me they were hoping to/had inked a similar "Speedvision-type" contract with TOC.

I suppose we'll just have to wait for the press releases for the final word!
I'm just glad they have an option.

Thumbs down Speed Channel

"The new Speed Channel sucks"! They should return to the old format. It had a lot of variety, something for every kind of speed freak!
I realize NASCA has a big following but the idea that those fat, toothless, beer sucking, trailer park trash have their own TV channel is a but much. Oops, didn't mean to step on anyones bare foot.
OSO please get the OFFSHORE ONLY CHANNEL of the ground ASAP!
