Default Lack of Power 1990 VIP

I just got a 1990 VIP 18' with Ford 302 and it tops out at 47 MPH. I am happy with the way it runs but it almost drowned me to death trying to pull me up on ski. Is there something I can do to get it to accelerate and plane out faster?

More prop blades. A Merc High Five prop will put it on plane in a few seconds.

My rpm are at 4400 right where they should be at WOT. Still has trouble pulling me out of the water on ski. The prop I have on is 14 1/2 x 19. Any suggestions?

Did you try bigger skis?
just kidding, we have a 02 21 ft VIP we use for a ski boat with a 5 liter motor and it will pull up 2 grown men turing a 21P 3 blade prop, we turn about 5200 rpm at wot and get about 53mph, you may have a diffrenet gear ratio and need to try a lower pitch prop

Cheapest solution seems to be to try a 17 pitch prop.

Try a 15p prop, you don't need to to go that fast to ski, just need a great holeshot.
