oil temp sender on gen vi bbc-best place to install??

i have a gen vi bbc that has those 2 plugged oil ports right above the oil filter location, can i use this for a oil temp sender? if not where should i put it? i am not crazy about tapping the pan

thats what im im going to do, tomorrow, i have a brand new 502 i just installed with the two holes in filter mount. I put my oil presure switch in the bottom hole and i am doing a oil temp in the top larger hole which is 1/4 NPT. What i did was order a 1/8 NPT sender and got a 1/4 NPT to 1/8 adapter busing so that the sender wont stick to far into the oil galley and stop oil flow. I am getting alot of condensation in my new motor being that its so cold and i used a laser temp gun and after short wide open ri=uns only getting 190 oil temp......From what i have read 220 is better for mostier burn off.

If you do a search you could read all day on this topic.
To make it simple I put mine in the remote oil filter pad. If its not mounted to the engine, remember to ground it, or the gauge will not work.
I monitor it for any big changes. If you run 220 all the time and you see 250, this indicates a problem. Mine have never changed.

I dont have any ports in the remote filter base so i really dont want to drill and tap it in the boat this year so im going to just do the filter pad on the block its self. What do you think i'll run for temps reading it there. Will they be higher or lower than pan temp? The oil galley right where stock filterboss is i assume is first in line from the oil pump so it should give a pretty close oil pan temp reading......right?

another thing is that i did not use a remote filter, i used a thermostat controled "sandwich" oil filter adapte..... does anyone know what i am talking about on the gen 6 blocks where there are 2 3/8"? pluged holes that appear to be for a cooler?

If your looking at the filter boss on your block, there are two holes on top of eachother...one i used for oil pressur switch and im running the other for oil temp, they are not for cooler. Mine is a gen 6 breand new casting

Gen VI blocks have three holes for accessories, two in front of the oil filter boss and one above. The carb 500 HPs in my boat have the oil pressure sender and oil pressure warning switch in the front two holes and the oil temp sender in the hole above the oil filter boss. Works fine.

I put mine in the remote filter because its the last place before the oil goes thru the cooler.

in the past i have run 2 sensor's in customers boats..one before the cooler and one after the cooler for a piece of mind.
one gauge and a three way switch,one sender to the top post a the other to the bottom post and the gauge to the center of the switch Works great..
