Hello all,
First time poster, long time troller...
I'm building a 454 (330hp just didn't do it anymore) and have a set of 781 heads that have to be redone. I have a 60 over 4bolt block ready to go.
Can anyone recommend a machine shop by Lake Lanier, north of Atlanta, GA?
As far as the 781's go, I'm going to get hardened seats, bigger valves, etc.. and a basic rebuild. I'm not looking to go insane, maybe 400-450 HP/500lbs.
I'm going to replace the pistons, to get approx 9.5 compresion to run pump gas. The 781's are 118cc chamber, 256/114cc ports. I was going to go with Speed Pro L2465F pistons to achive my target compression.
What do you think of the stock crank and rods? They are the stock pieces from the 330hp merc, so they are cast, but I would think they can stand up to 400-450. However, this is my first marine engine build, so I figured I'd ask you all. I'd have the rods reworked with ARP bolts..
Once I get the bottom end done, I'll bother you all for cam/intake/exhaust suggestions. hahaha
This is a great resource, and thanks to you all for making it so.
Thanks, have a great day...
Rich
