Audio and Video – Marine VS Car
#1
Thinking of up-grading the stereo and maybe a small flat panel in the cuddy. Can you use car stuff or is there a marine grade product out there. Are there any companies that specialize in boats?? Any recommendations on brands of stereos, amps, speakers, ect.
Thanks, Speed

i have ran car audio only stuff in my boats for over 10 years and it will hold up fine. keep in mind i keep my boat covered so it doesnt see allot of uv rays and moisture (besides normal boat type lol) if you treat your boat like some of the people i know with it sitting uncovered in the rain then they are not gonna last long. most new style speakers do not use paper cones and allot do not even use metal baskets anymore so they are dang near water resistant as it is.

really depends on where u are going to mount the equipment. jlaudio, alpine, etc make marinized versions of their head units, amps, speakers. if you are mounting things in a cuddy, then normal car gear is fine. items that will be out in the elements would probably fair better w/ marine grade. also most marine head units support wired remotes, while their car counterparts do not.

if its inside then car is fine, but outside you might want marine, due to water issues. But ive seen marine speakers and compared them to car ones and there was no difference besides the white cover. but it probably depends on the brand. I would put the amp inside anyways so i would get a car one.

In the oem world car speakers have to go through UV and water spray testing. Car doors are considered "wet" areas.
Aftermarket hard to say, we were playing around once and found JBL marine speakers would play under water!
Not sure what good that is, if that happens I have other problems.
Where is a good place to get aftermarket head units?
Does anyone know where you can find real data on aftermarket speakers? I would like to see freq response, distortain at max voltage, 1 watt 1 meter output and for mid/ highs off axis data.
Anybody?
