sounds like a dream come true.... i'm also new to boating in upstate Ny.... hoping to put in for pirate week in A-bay this august.... saw some charts of canals and lakes in West Marine in watertown (kind of across from mall, next to pier 1 imports)

i'm interested to see what kind of replies/advice the OP gets to his/her question.

Well im in afghanistan so ill be missing this summer. But the ST lawrence is pretty nice place to boat, go east up the river and youll find singer castle which you can visit, and Bolt castle is not a bad stop. Unless you have charts or are familiar to the river stay inbetween the buoys. It will go from 150ft to nothing in a heart beat with big azz rocks. Ive gone off the beaten path but thats after following somebody else or go very slow. Lk Ontario isnt bad either. I think i might try the finger lakes sometime.

With that said im from Michigan and up north they have an inland waterway that you start in a lake and goes from river to lake river to lake etc, takes about 8-10hrs to do the whole things its great
