Arrow How accurate is the liquid filled speedometers??

I know the older style paddle wheel, water shoot ones were or could be 10mph +/-. How about the new stlye or modern ones. I am having a hard time spending 400+ on a gps unit, when I have a handheld gps.. I can get one of these for less then half.. How acc are they (livorsi)??

Thanks John jr

Mine is within 2 mph of my GPS.

The liquid doesn't make them more accurate. Just eliminates the needle bouncing.

Mine is about the same up to about 100 or so. After 100, it starts to go off.

My liquid filled speedo is within 1mph as long as my speedo pick up is in good condition.

My Gaffrig liquid speedo is pretty = to my hand held GPS. I have had a magellan and a garmin hand held in the boat at the same time and they were 2MPH different in top speed.

My next speedo is going to be a cheap Garmin 162 or 172c or 182c off of e-bay. Takes up just about the same amount of space and also doubles as a plotter.

It's 2010 there is no excuse to get A$$ raped by Livorsi or Gaffrig for old technology and only get your speed. I have seen a few dashes that people just pull out that old NICE air pressure speedo and add just a cheap monochromatic garmin 162 and it looks so much cooler. You are able to mark points, ETA till your next destination, depths of some areas and miles to your next port.

I think I am going to spend the extra $$$ for the 172c. I have seen them go for as little as $165, but you have to wait for the bargain.
