I know we all think this would never happen to us as a passenger or boat operator, but it could happen in a blink of a eye....and mabe think twice about putting on a life jacket....and operating at a safe speed in the dark....not to put a damper on boating....but this happens more then you may think.

I will say, I think Outerlimits upped the safety when they installed a pop up FLIR on the bow of one of their boats. Definitly a step in the right direction. Not cheap, but I hope to see more.

see this is a perfect example of someone doing something stupid. its things like this that change the way we boat with more strict guidelines. stupid people

This guy was arrested the next day and charged. In the same county 15 miles away a billionaire polo guy t-boned a kid coming home from college with his Bentley at 1am. Kid died, a month later the guy has not been charged despite several reports that the guy had been up all night doing drugs, drinking at the club etc.

Seems justice may be blind when a rich guy does something wrong......

Our local waterway has a night time speed limit of 25 mph. I never understood why that isn't more prevalent.

I am in that part of Delray several times a year...it is a no wake zone there

The owner of a boat involved in a fatal crash on Narragansett Bay says two mechanics who worked for him were on an unauthorized "midnight joyride" when they slammed into a rocky outcropping known as Despair Island, killing two women aboard.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.-- The owner of a boat involved in a fatal crash on Narragansett Bay says two mechanics who worked for him were on an unauthorized "midnight joyride" when they slammed into a rocky outcropping known as Despair Island, killing two women aboard.

Richard Cromwell tells The Associated Press on Monday that the two mechanics had worked for years for his company Maritime Solutions, a small boat engine repair shop in Portsmouth.

He says they took the 22-foot Sun Ray without permission, launching from Portsmouth.

Cromwell says they hit the rocks so fast the boat went airborne and flipped.

Cromwell says neither mechanic was an experienced boater.

Officials say the two women who died were from Massachusetts. Their names have not been released. Three other people were hurt.
