Default Only 4500 RPM's....Help

Hey gang, got a hell of a question/delima/problem....

Ran the boat for the first time yesterday. 29 OL....HO's...stock factory 26's. Boat at WOT full trim max RPM was only 4500 and bout 65 on the wish-o-meter. Something is definately not right. From selling so many 29's back in my day I could run 26's on MAG and HO boats and spin 5000-5100 all day long.

When I bought the boat I had both motors compression tested etc...had the computers checked out. Compression is great (170-180) on all holes....computers checked out with no codes and very little time at WOT. 220 hrs. on the scan of the computers as well.

So what could it be????? Fouled plugs? Bad/old fuel???? The fuel in the boat was full...and it could be from last summer???? Lots of stabilizer in it???? I have no clue. The transom of the boat was also extra black.... My girlfriend getting back on the boat from the water just putting her hands and feet on the platform were completely black.....

Any help or suggestions or??? would be greatly appreciated. This is the first "used" anything I have ever bought and I seem to keep finding things that are making me think I should have maybe not have bought???

Check all the spark plug caps on the wires. 496's for some reason seem to pop-off plug wires, even when brand new, and many times toward the back of the engine?

I think there may have been some sort of computer flash they did for excessive soot on the HO's. Also you might try a set of 28 labbed props or maybe even some labbed 26's if you can borrow some and see if that makes a difference in your rpm's.

Thanks y'all. I will check the plug wires when I get back up there tomorrow or so. I plan on pulling the puters off and sending them to a buddy to get re-flashed for the soot and whatever else they may find.

Boat is a stock set up, stock X.... 1:50 gears....stock 26's....HO's. It should bump the rev limiters in this set up as they all did when I sold them new. We would run LAB 28's and still get 5K out of them...

Yeah I noticed that XT....I had a few 33's come in that had the wires popped off...but the motors were "missing"...mine are not????

If the motors were "both" in guardian would that show when they scanned the computers before I bought it? When he scanned them he said there were no codes or anything in it????

So frusturated.

Canadian gas. The octane is rated on the metric system so it's all screwed up for us here in Mexico.
I think it is probably the gas. If everything is that black you've got a fuel issue. All you got to do now is figure out if it is actually the fuel or if it is ignition related.
Put some fresh plugs in & some good fuel & try it again.
