This is an Alpha drive for a 454 mag. This is the 1.36 ratio which uses heavier duty gears compared to the 1.5 ratio small block version. 180 hours on drive. $old!

Its no bravo, but it is stronger than a 1.5. This is copied from the sterndrive.com site. I'm not going to pretend to be a drive expert because I'm not.
"Before the Bravo drive was introduced, Mercury mated the big block engines to an Alpha with a heavy-duty 1.50:1 drive (labeled HD 1.50:1) which really didn't hold up too well.
They changed the ratio to a 1.36:1 which held up better."
