That was the first year of that motor. Best thing is to go to a Ford diesel truck forum and read what they have to say about it. I'm a Ram diesel owner so I don't know anything about the 6.4 PSD.

I have a 08 350. I have 36K miles and havent had any problems. Mileage could be better... 13-16 on Hwy. Pulling I get 10-12. Really depends on how you drive them. It pulls everything I have put behind it with no problem. I have passed many going up hills pulling 14000#. I think problems happen when you start adding chips or aftermarket parts to improve performance. IMO

With chips and tuners come higher EGTs. Water/methanol systems help keep them down.

What I couldn't believe was only 350hp from a twin turbo system. On a Cummins, twins will get you at least 500hp.

Im just not willing to take a chance with a chip. To many guy I no have used them. Then wished they never did. Mine has more enough power for what I need. May only be 350 hp but it has 600 ft# of torque.

I don't have a chip/tuner on my truck either but I will get the Hypertech Econ soon. Guys on cumminsforum.com who have them say they get 2-5 mpg with them.

The Econ is a mild, safe tuner that focuses on mileage. It only has three settings, unlike the Smarty which has TEN.
