Default Silverado SS tow capacity

Hey Everyone, I have been looking into buying a boat and I'm not quite sure as to what size of boat my truck would be able to handle safley. I have a 2006 Silverado SS (2WD) and I'm not exactly sure what the tow rating is.. I keep getting conflicting info on the web and I'm in Afghanistan right now so it's not like I can just go outside and check for myself. I have been looking around for a Pantera 24 or similar.. Any Advice for a new boater?

I pull a Baja 242 Islander 90 miles each way every weekend with mine. It only gets about 9 mpg pulling it though. My Silverado SS is a 2003 and has the AWD system with 4:10 gears. I think the 2006 Silverado SS trucks have 3:73 gears though. That might make a difference in pulling power.

My father-in-law has one, an AWD version and I have pulled my 242 with it and it was fine. He also pulls his 24 ft deck boat with out issue.

You should be fine to to up to atleast a 30 ft boat with it. The newer ones went to a 373 gear and 2wd. Pre 05's were awd and used a 410 gear.. still the same tow rating..

How much does an average 30' boat weigh? My 242 islander weighs around 6200 lbs with fuel and everything. I was wanting a bigger boat, but did not think my truck could tow it.

I've got an '07 Avalanche, similar in nature but with a 5.3, 2wd, & 3.73 rear. I tow a 24' SE Pantera with mine and it's no problem. My boat, trailer, & gear, ready to go weighs around 5800 lbs.

Pretty much a golden rule:
Anything bigger than a single BB = 3/4 ton truck.
