I boat on the mississippi and haven't had the need to make a hi speed turn...ever...just gentle turns cruising up and down the river..occassionally going relatively fast for my size boat.
I understand the race boats spinning, flipping, rolling, and getting thrown out of their boats in turns due to making fast sharp turns...I am looking to eventually move up to a bigger boat, probably with a stepped bottom...and am wondering the risk of rolling, ejection, etc for a pleasure boater...Maybe I'm not really an aggressive driver...but I have yet to see the need for me to make hi speed turns on the river or a lake that I frequent.
I know there is an inherent risk with any boat...but I always wonder when I read about a pleasure boat that rolls, spins, etc. am I going to be at risk if I own a boat like that???

I just took Tres's class this past weekend . They go into great detail about this subject. Even after running boats for over 30 years I took alot from the class. Without giving up the farm for Tres it has everthing to do with set up before entering the turn and proper angle of attack . After watching what seemed like 100 spinouts almost all were a result of inncorrect trim and improper turn techniques.http://www.performanceboatschool.com/
