Default p/s pump fitting??

Went to hookup my steering line from my pump into the new boat today, and it seemed like the flare nut wouldnt thread into my pump. Almost like i couldnt push the flare part of the fitting in far enough to get the threads to catch? Are there different styles of pumps/fittings? The fitting in my boat has a 5/8 size hex with a flare and o-ring.

yes, the early pumps use a std flair, the later models use the nipple with a O-ring, you can change the pressure regulator easily on the back of the pump(the big nut) to get the right one..Rob
