Would this sell??
So many have expressed liking clean classic lines... The idea has been kicking in the back of my mind for a couple years of a 'retro' entry level boat...
30'~35', no exotic laminates or epoxies, straight or conservatively stepped, basic solid gelcote colors (no spectral vomit paint jobs) Classic V-shapped fairing as part of the deck, single raised center lifeline, just a basic clean uncluttered classic look with crisp straight lines, 496's or 525's and bravos, maybee 80 mph tops, fast enough to be fun and run poler runs without being so fast that it becomes really easy to get stupid. very basic cabin, cooler, portapotty, 2 couches and v-birth.
A somewhat heavy boat that rides nice, easy to maintian, no beaks or bussles or bling factor.

Personally I think the "entry level" group would be more attracted to single engine i/o or o/b 24' and single engine i/o 28' or twin o/b.
Actually Pantera currently builds it exactly this way or as wild as you want to get.
Phragle to answer your question...Yes I think they would sell...BUT there are a number of builders that can currently do it already.

Along the same lines, but Apache carries a premium for the name apache (rightly so) plus the apaches have big power, kevlar etc....
With the entry level reply... maybe I didnt phrase entry level right. I mean the person moving to an offshore boat from a 24 footer etc... or someone that needs a boat with a little room or length for conditions. On lake erie a 30-35' boat is going to be a lot nicer than a 25'.
There is so much room to bring the price pont down on whats out there... plain white bolsters instead of a 37 color odd shaped thing that looks like it belongs on the starship enterprise, a non skid cockpit floor instead of fancey carpeting with the boat company nake embedded in it, a molded dash instead of some custome silkscreened billitanium piece

pantera, saber, banana, and even active thunder will build you a plain vanilla boat. Yes, sutphen too.
I agree, it seems you should be able to buy a boat for less, but when the company is only building 5-8 boats a year, you have alot of overhead to squeeze into each boat.
IMO, a twin 496 28ft boat, should cost very similar to a twin 496 36ft boat. What are you talking about... 8ft of glass and resin, and maybe 4-5ft longer wiring harnesses?
