Default 6.2 bearing failures

I own a 2004 292 Fasteck with twin 6.2s Bravo drives. This last summer the starboard engine would not rev above 2000-2500rpms and missed badly. It was determined that some of the bearings had failed. Mainly, the #7 rod bearing, then the front and rear mains. The crank bounced around causing the miss and also the engine would lose oil pressure and the computer would shut it down. Both engines had 185 hours.

I ended up with a new/re man motor under warranty, they paid all but $2500 of the re-power. My worry now is the Port engine. I have been given two stories:
1-all 6.2s were assembled in 2004 with wrong torque specs on rod bearings, wrong impact wrench pressure when assembling engine.
2-Mercruiser had a 17% failure of main bearings in 2004, wrong clearance in bearing.

The port engine seems to hold good oil pressure but now I am wondering. Any one else heard of these problems or had an engine failure due to bearings?

Up-date in June of 2010 after 6hrs on the re-man motor again a bearing failure. Took boat to Mercruiser dealer, told that Mercruiser is aware of the 6.2 bearing problem and will send another motor in July, must have none in stock. Anyone else experience this bearing failure problem in the 6.2? Now I'm worries about the port side engine, Anyone want a Formula 292?

I had, what we think was a bearing failure, on a 2008 6.2. Mercruiser took care of it. Hate to think it might happen again... look forward to hearing what other, more in the "know", people have to say.

Hope they don't have alot of problems because we have 2 in a 2004 Formula 31 PC with around 210 hrs. We have had no problems, knock on wood. Ours was bought in Oct of 2003.

the knock sensor was probably shutting you down as well.
