I noticed my 26OL has a drain plug under teh motor in the bottom of teh bilge, about a foot aft of the depth sounder puck. It looks just like the one on the transom, just screwed to the bottom. The plug had come loose and was rolling around, thats how I found it. I stuck my finger in the hole and it was dry, there was a slight gap between what i suppose is the liner dan the hull bottom. I just screwed it back in cause I dont want water to get trapped between the layers.

Does anyone know what the purpose of this plug is for? seems like a waste to me.

It is defenitly not connected to the oil drain system. Please pardon my dirty bilge.

It is for the gap in the liner. I left my plug out because the recess for the depth gauge puck opens into the same cavity. The plug is useless IMO.

Ok, I understand there may be a gap between the liner and hull. Why does that necessitate a drain plug there?
If yours has one, I guess all liner boats do too. Im just curious as to the technical reasoning at the factory for doing this.
Im leaving mine in just in case I ever get water in the bilge, I dont want water to get trapped between the layers.

If yours is like mine...and it looks exactly the same from your picture...it will not matter if the plug is in or out. Water will get in the gap from the location of your depth gauge puck which is right next to the plug in question.

nope, the recessed spot for the trasducer is recessed just in the liner, it does not go thru. Mine did not have the trasducer when i got it, so I know for sure that the spot is just like a little dip in the liner only.

My bad. Yours is different than mine. Like you I found the plug rolling around under the motor. The dealer told me it didnt really matter if it was left in or out, but if i left it in that I needed to unplug it a few times a season to let it "air out". When I saw that the liner was cut through for the transducer I chose to leave it out. Hope this helps
