Default New Boat Question.. 1st Baja

I just bought a real nice 265 DVX this week and took it out for a spin. It rips out of the water but tops out about 51-52 mph. Is this correct? It feels like it should be getting more top-end. Any opinions on props? Anyone ever have one? I'm just looking for some info. Thanks

What motor do you have? What RPM are you seeing? What prop are you spinning? Will help us help you.

Have a pure stock 1990 265 dvx and it has never seen 50 on the gps. It's a 454/365 bravo 1 with mirage plus 21p. So if your getting 50+ your doing good.

When my old 265 Force had stock power(454 330hp) it ran about 52-53...I repowered with HP500 it ran 62-63..then I added a 250 B&M supercharger it ran about 67-68..very slow hull..I would say you are right on track..if you are running a 3 blade prop..change it to a 4 blade and you will see a much better riding and handling boat.

I have a stock 454, I believe its 330hp, I'm turning about 4200 rpm's with a 19 pitch prop. If I run a 4 blade what pitch is the best? Thanks Again

Well, I'm not sure..My 265 also had a 19p mirage on it when I got it..with the HP500 I used a labbed 24p bravo 1 & with the 250 B&M addition I went to a 26p no lab...but the difference in the handling was unbelievable between the 3 & 4 blade with that hull..I have to guess that you need an 18p or 20p but not sure where to find one like that..Hydromotive starts at 19p and bravo 1 I think start at 22p for 4 blades..

Maybe someone else will have more insight on prop selection?

hi browny, If it's a 454 mag then it's a 454/365 hp, steel crank and better heads. most produce around 385 hp.
as for the props, the forums i've searched say 23p/3 blade for speed. (mid 50's)
lots of good talk on the 4 blades like bajapred said. most are higher hp.
if i can get my backside up and moving this summer i'll call bblades.com and work out a good prop.
will let you know the results, but it''s been a busy summer and doesn't look good for boating.
