Default New SBC/Melling H. Volume Oil Pump

What kind of Oil pressure should I be getting with a NEW engine with a High Volume Melling Pump? Im running 75+ when cold and 65+ after 30-40 Minutes. This seems awfull high!!! Thoughts????

The pump internal pressure relief is probably set at 75 psi (same as my BBC pumps from Melling). I have the same kind of running pressures. I've come to the conclusion that the HV pumps are really too much unless your running pretty big clearances.

F3lS,

I have a federal mogual high volume oil pump on my sbc. I think to get a real reading you need a mechanical guage. My electric guage is 20 at idle and 40 from 2000 rpm up. The pressure appears to be ramped differently from my stock merc oil pump.

the melling SBC high vol. oil pump comes with a high pressure spring in it, you have to change the spring with the extra one in the box, the extra spring wil give you standard pressure. Already changed mine.
