Default Electric brake help

I just converted my trailer to electric brakes. Straight electric. Problem i am having is almost no braking power. Boat wasnt even on the trailer, and while hitting the trailer brakes, it barely made a difference. At a stoplight, i could hold trailer brake button down, at full gain, and the idling of the truck would still overcome the brakes.

Brakes are adjsuted to where they have a slight drag. For wiring, i ran two conductor 14 gauge from a junction box at trailer tongue, to another junction box near the front axle (mounted to frame). From that junction box, i ran hot leads to each brake assembly, and ground leads to each brake assembly.

just to verify it wasnt a issue with my truck, or brake controller, i hooked my buddies truck to trailer, and same thing.

This should be really simple I figured, used all new parts, all new wiring. I can hear the magnets hum when the controller is activated. Just no stopping force. It seems like there isnt enough voltage to the magnets or something. I guess i need to get the multimeter out and start checking readings.

Anyone have any tips? Trailer must be grounded good, all the lights and everything is working fine.

Thunder:

You need to take it to a good trailer shop. Electric brakes are much better than surge brakes and should provide more braking power than what your having. I have them on my trailer, and although they won't lock it up they help considerably.

I towed my buddies 30ft'er last week and he has straight electric. stops awesome.

Im hoping its just some ground or wiring issue, and not faulty set of brakes. I did the breakaway kit, insulated two conductor wire..all the right stuff..
