my gps speedo is activated when i turn on my gps unit and the speedo needle jumps all over the place but the monitor reads ok would it need a new speedo guage or could it be something else.

Check the ground circuit, battery, block, and etc. very very carefully. Then, run 1 on one and 2 on two after verifying the switches connect and correspond to the switches.
