Arrow Trip Across Lk Michigan in September

I am planning a trip from Grand Haven to Milwaukee on September 9th or 10th, going out on the town and coming home the 11th or early the 12th weather pending of course. Most likely sleeping on the boat. Has anyone stayed or at least been to any of the Marina's there or have any recommendations for the trip? This will be my first time across the big lake and am pretty excited for it. I'll have my 2 GPS's and a good old fashion Map for backup, maybe overkill but better safe than sorry. Any info is appreciated thanks!

Might be a little easier to leave from Muskegon and follow the Lake Express ferry across. I have never made the trip before, but just a thought.

I think it takes the ferry about 3-4 hours to cross. I believe it's about 75 miles if you make a straight shot. If you have good weather, I think you'll get bored following the ferry. That would be a cool trip though. Milwaukee is a fun town- never done it from the water though. You'll have to post results- looking forward to hearing about it.

I have some friends that take their cruisers across every year for the big music fest in Milwaukee, I will ask them where they stay. I believe they go across from Ludington, and it takes them like 2-21/2 hours.

Ya, I usually get pounded one way of the round trip.

The ferry cruises about 40 mph. Not too bad of a cruise speed. If the lake is calm enough, probably no need to follow.
